Prof. Tirumala Vangipuram Gopala Chary is a distinguished retired academician with over three decades of teaching, research, and administrative experience in the field of Sociology. He retired in 2016 after serving as Professor of Sociology at the Centre for Indian Ocean Studies, Osmania University, Hyderabad. Holding M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. degrees in Sociology from Osmania University, Prof. Chary has made significant contributions to higher education through his teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, mentoring of Ph.D. and M.Phil. scholars, and leadership in research initiatives.

His scholarly work spans a wide array of topics, including tribal development, women's studies, rural transformation, ethnic identities, and West Asian geopolitics. He has authored over 50 research articles, presented papers at national and international conferences—including in Germany and the United States—and received prestigious UGC fellowships for both doctoral and post-doctoral research. His academic engagements have taken him to China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Sri Lanka, UAE, Qatar, and Egypt, enriching his global academic outlook.
Outside the university system, Prof. Chary has been a driving force in educational and civic development through his longstanding involvement with the Osmania Graduates’ Association (OGA). He has served as Secretary of the OGA and held leadership positions in institutions established jointly by OGA and the Exhibition Society. He played a pivotal role in organizing the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, launching academic programs, and hosting prominent national personalities at OGA events. Under his leadership, OGA established Colleges of Education in Warangal, Pargi, and Kalwakurthy, and facilitated land acquisitions for institutional expansion.
